Beyond the Interface: My Vision for the future of ERP

Summarize with AI:

For the last decade, I've lived and breathed AI-driven enterprise software, long before the current hype cycle took hold. Today, it's impossible to ignore the buzz around AI, but I believe its true potential lies far beyond flashy demos. The real revolution is in how AI will fundamentally reshape our relationship with the most critical system in any business: the ERP.

For too long, ERP systems have been powerful but complex monoliths. While essential, they often require deep, specialized knowledge to navigate, creating a barrier for many users. At Priority, our vision is to dismantle that barrier. We are not just adding AI features; we are architecting an intelligent, accessible, and multi-modal ERP for the future.

AI as a practical partner, not a gimmick

The first step in this journey is to make AI a practical, everyday partner. I often tell my team that I am my own “guinea pig”. Having joined Priority just eight months ago, I don't know every field or setting in our extensive system. And I shouldn't have to. I can simply talk to our ERP in natural, human language to find what I need, making the system immediately accessible without a steep learning curve. This is about empowering users, not overwhelming them.

But experience is only half the story. True value comes from embedding intelligence directly into core business processes where it can impact the bottom line. This is about more than just the latest generative AI tools; it involves deploying robust machine learning and optimization algorithms to solve complex challenges. We've implemented this with AI-powered demand forecasting, where models trained within Priority feed directly into the planning process, and we are soon releasing algorithmic routing optimization. These aren't theoretical concepts; they are tangible tools that deliver cost savings and efficiency improvements customers can see.

A platform built for the future

None of this is possible without the right foundation. In today's interconnected world, an ERP is no longer the only system a company uses. That's why we've built Priority as an extensible platform with robust APIs, designed to give our customers a shortcut to integration and self-sufficiency.

This platform approach is crucial for two reasons. First, it allows businesses to easily connect to other best-in-class solutions – from analytic tools to invoice processing or e-commerce tools from our ISV marketplace – without getting locked into long, expensive integration projects. Second, it future-proofs their investment. Our platform approach allows us to add further AI, machine learning and Gen-AI capabilities, ensuring that as technology evolves, our customers' core system can evolve with it securely and seamlessly.

The ERP of the future, is not a single, one-size-fits-all interface. Instead, the core ERP will function as an intelligent engine, with its data and functionality consumed through a multitude of modalities best suited to each user and their specific role.

Priority ERP already comes with a variety of different options suited for different users. Some of our users are using our web interface, others are interacting with mobile applications or portals. On top of that, conversational and agentic modalities would provide alternative means of interaction.

Imagine the world where a sales representative could use voice interface to enter orders quickly in the mobile application or an executive getting insights through a chat. In this future, the ERP becomes more accessible and powerful than ever. It will be powered by specialized autonomous agents that handle repetitive work, only involving a “human in the loop” when a critical decision is needed. The system won't just respond; it will proactively help you run your business more efficiently.

We are not building technology for technology's sake. We are solving hard, complex problems for our customers, from intricate manufacturing processes to managing global operations across dozens of subsidiaries. Our goal is to provide the full power of an enterprise-grade solution combined with the agility and innovation to adapt to an unknown future. The “multi-modal ERP” is the next logical step in that journey, making the most powerful tool in your business also the most accessible.
